Keyboard under hand I will take a moment to reflect my thoughts as an artist.
My work is my own work, unique in style and exploration. Every painting I push a little further to learn a little more. (see below) My signature style of Painted Pony Pulls has been imitated but know it is mine. My abstract color pulls and hints of horses in the color mix is unique to me as well. My newest style is layering of watery acrylics and then overlaying heavier paints of both acrylic or oil. I have seen poor imitations of my work as artists attempt to find their way by imitating my styles and styles of other established artists.
An artist must learn to trust their inner creative being. Their work must be unique to them and not to someone else. I struggled and painted and prayed endlessly as I tried several approaches and realized that I can paint realistically, I can paint impressionistically but my joy is in my palette knife and how I turn use it on my canvas.
When you buy a Pace painting you will have a unique piece of art that was NOT directly influenced by someone else's style...but it is my own development and growth that brought it to being. My Painted Pony Pulls were brought to life in the summer of 2006 following a huge gallery opening in NY. Conni Togel and I were on the phone talking about painting something different. From this we both in our own studios in separate states, painted a nude. We exchanged images via the internet. Conni phoned me laughing...I had put two left feet on my nude. I am a commercial artist by trade and that was a huge blow to the brain. So I took my palette knife and I scraped that canvas. It was a large 30 x 40 canvas and I threw more paint up there and pulled new colors into that now abstracted nude...and suddenly the horses were there.

I had been painting impressionistic horses for years...but this was pure abstract in form and implication... and there they were....the first painted pony pulls. From there the next style that evolved was the pulling of paint in different directions on the canvas.... then the carving of the horse and the actually defining the volumne and shape of the horse, not just an outline, but a define given shape. Many times I see this style copied as an artist will randomly throw paint up and palette knife scrape it and then draw outlines of horses. It is so much deeper than that. It is the merging and blending of colors. It is the knowledge that has been accumulated from working in art for 50 years. What I paint is the result of my life experiences and no one can imitate what resonates from my soul through my palette knife.
The painting below is the combined pulls.
